On September 19, the Orthodox Church commemorates Archangel Michael, the leader of the heavenly forces, who has been regarded for centuries as the conqueror of hostile forces and the protector of truth.

The local council of Laodicea (early 4th century, before the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea) established the feast of angels, condemning the divine worship of angels and affirming their Orthodox veneration.

The feast is celebrated on the eighth day of November, as this date symbolically relates to the nine ranks of angels and the "eighth day," meaning the end of the world and the Last Judgment. However, there are also days of commemoration, including September 19, when the church especially remembers Archangel Michael.

In iconography, he is often depicted clad in armor, holding a spear or a fiery sword, with a defeated demon or serpent beneath his feet. This image emphasizes his victory over evil forces.

Archangel Michael is one of the most revered heavenly forces in the Christian world. In biblical texts, he is presented as the commander of the army, who, by God's will, fights against evil. According to the Holy Scripture, it was he who overthrew Lucifer, the shining angel, who fell from heaven due to pride and became a devil.

His name in Hebrew means "Who is like God?" — highlighting the incomparability of God. Therefore, Michael is recognized in the hearts of Christians as a protector of strength and purity. In various denominations, not only in Orthodoxy but also in Catholic and other Christian traditions, he is given special honor.
