Hierarch of the Constantinople Church calls war in Ukraine fratricidal

On April 25, 2025, Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, head of the Exarchate of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in the USA, characterized the military conflict in Ukraine as «fratricidal» and «completely unnecessary».
During a joint meeting of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the USA and the Permanent Council of Eastern Orthodox Churches at the National Shrine of Saint Nicholas at Ground Zero in New York, Archbishop Elpidophoros noted that «cruel political ambitions are just as dangerous, as we see in Ukraine to this day, where this completely unnecessary and heartless conflict is being perpetrated in a fratricidal frenzy».
Archbishop Elpidophoros emphasized that such conflicts are not a «clash of civilizations» but rather the result of greed and political insatiability that destroy nations from within.
Earlier, the UOJ reported that the Archbishop of Constantinople accused Dumenko of violating the norms of the Tomos.
