On Monday of Bright Week, April 21, 2025, His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry celebrated the Divine Liturgy at the Kazan Cathedral of the Ascension Florivskyi Monastery in Kyiv. This was reported by the UOC Information and Education Department.
His Beatitude was concelebrated by Bishop Lavr of Irpin, Bishop Mark of Borodianka, the clergy of the Florivskyi Monastery, and guests in holy orders. During the service, the sisters prayed with the abbess of the monastery, Mother Superior Evlampia (Eliseikina), and the faithful.
The Paschal, or Bright, week is perceived by the Church as one day – a day of universal joy and communion with the Risen Christ. This communion can be most fully realized through participation in the Sacrament of Communion of the Body and Blood of Christ. Excluding some details, the same Paschal service is essentially performed daily during Bright Week as on the day of Pascha itself. Christians celebrate the Resurrection of Christ as if in anticipation of the eternal "day without evening" when the Lord will come in glory and grant us the eternal Kingdom.
During the Liturgy, a petition for peace on Ukrainian land and deliverance from the enemy was offered, that the Lord would have mercy on our people and preserve those who are in despair and have lost their homes, and that the Lord would bless the people of good will who are helping those in need.
His Beatitude Metropolitan Onuphry ordained the second-year master's student of the Kyiv Theological Academy, Hierodeacon Peter (Shtefaniuk), as hieromonk.
After the dismissal, the Primate of the Church congratulated the sisters and parishioners of the monastery on the Resurrection of Christ and gave out sweet gifts to the children.
As reported by the UOJ, His Beatitude Onuphry led the Paschal service at the Lavra.
