Supreme Court denies UOC the right to use Yeletsky Convent in Chernihiv
In March 2024, the UOC was ordered to vacate the Trinity Monastery and Yeletsky Convent, as well as the Transfiguration Cathedral in Chernihiv. The Church challenged this decision.
On January 16, 2025, the Supreme Court of Ukraine ruled in favor of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve "Ancient Chernihiv", rejecting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church's claim regarding the right to use the Yeletsky Convent in Chernihiv. This was reported by the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine.
The Ministry stressed the importance of adhering to legislation concerning the use of cultural heritage and reminded that the case of the Yeletsky Convent had been reviewed by courts of various instances.
As reported by the UOJ, the Director of the Chernihiv Reserve promised to continue hosting film screenings in the cathedral.
